David Jiménez

David Jiménez (Barcelona, 1971) is an award-winning journalist and writer. After a year at Harvard as a Nieman Fellow, he was recently named editor of the prominent Spanish newspaper El Mundo, whose Asia bureau he headed for years....
He has been a contributor for CNN and BBC; the Guardian, Corriere della Sera, Toronto Star, and Sunday Times newspapers; the magazine The Squire; and others. He is the author of three books: El lugar más feliz del mundo (Kailas Editorial, 2013), from which this essay is taken; El botones de Kabul (La Esfera de los Libros, 2010), a novel inspired by his coverage of the Afghan War; and Hijos del monzón (Kailas Editorial, 2007; published in English as Children of the Monsoon by Autumn Hill Books, 2014), which was awarded Best Travel Book of the Year in Spain and has been translated into several languages.
