Alois Hotschnig

Alois Hotschnig was born in 1959 and lives as a freelance author in Innsbruck. His novella Aus (Over) was published in 1989 and received the Kärnten Sponsorship Award. Eine Art Glück (A Kind of Luck) followed in 1990 and in 1992 he won the Prize of the County Kärnten at the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt....

The same year his novel Leonardos Hände (Leonardo’s hands) was published and received the Anna Seghers Prize. In 1994, his play Absolution had its world premiere in Vienna. In 1999, he received the Robert Musil Scholarship. His second novel, Ludwigs Zimmer (Ludwig’s Room), was released in 2000, and he was awarded the Italo Svevo Prize for his complete works in 2002, followed by the Austrian Advancement Award for Literature in 2003. The collection of stories Die Kinder beruhigte das nicht was published in 2006 in Germany and its English translation under the title Maybe This Time in 2011. His latest collection of short stories, Im Sitzen läuft es sich besser Davon, was published in 2009. His works have been translated into French and English, among other languages.
