Eva Buchwald

Eva studied at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at the University of London. She is a dramaturg at the Finnish National Theatre where her role includes developing new Finnish writing and seeking international work for the program....

Eva also adapts work for the stage, most recently Ian McEwan’s novel Saturday (2014), which is currently playing at the FNT.

Eva has also worked as a freelance translator of fiction for over twenty years, with an emphasis on dramatic work.  Many of her play translations, such as Juha Jokela’s Fundamenlist, Sirkku Peltola’s Finnhorse, and Sofi Oksanen’s Purge and have enjoyed readings or productions in the UK and USA. Her most recent translations are Minna Nurmelin’s two-hander Remember Me, which was included in a reading festival in Copenhagen in June 2014, and Paula Salminen’s 13 Sunken Years, which will be performed at the Edinburgh Festival in August 2014, in a co-production by Scottish companies Stellar Quines and Lung Ha’s.
