Julia Mikhailova was born in Krasnoyarsk in Siberia and holds degrees in philology from Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University and Syracuse University. She teaches Russian at the Middlebury Summer Language School and at Ohio State University, where she is a doctoral candidate in Slavic linguistics.
