Oscar Collazos

Óscar Collazos was a Colombian writer, journalist, essayist and literary critic. Born in 1942 in Bahía Solano, a coastal town in Colombia’s Chocó department. Swept up with revolutionary fervor, he moved to Paris 1968, where he survived by giving Spanish classes and with the help of a friend....

After returning to Colombia, he was invited to be part of the jury for the annual Casa de las Américas short-story prize in Cuba. In Havana, he met and forged friendships with writers such as Alejo Carpentier, Julio Cortázar, Mario Benedetti Eduardo Galeano, and Juan Goytisolo. He later moved to Barcelona, and only returned to Colombia in 1989, where he began to publish essays and criticism for the Sunday magazine of the newspaper El Espectador. In total, Collazos would publish eighteen novels and seventeen story collections, in addition to a number of works of criticism. His work has been translated into German, French, Italian, and Danish.
