Piedad Bonnett

Piedad Bonnett is a poet, dramaturg, novelist, and memoirist. She graduated from the Universidad de los Andres with a degree in philosophy and letters and later earned a master’s in art and architectural theory from the Universidade Nacional de Colombia. She has published eight books of poems and several anthologies....

Her memoir about her son’s suicide, Lo que no tiene nombre, was named one of the best 100 books of the last twenty-five years by Babelia, the cultural supplement of the Spanish newspaper El País. She has won several awards for her work: in 1994, she received Colombia’s National Prize for Poetry for El hilo de los días; in 2011, she won the Casa de América of Madrid’s prize for poetry in the Americas for Explicaciones no pedidas; in 2012, she received the Premio Víctor Sandoval for the body of her work at the Encuentro de Poetas del Mundo Latino in Aguascalientes, Mexico; in 2014, the Casa de las Américas awarded her the Premio José Lezama Lima; and in 2016, she received the Premio Generación del 27 in Malaga, Spain.
