Stephanie Bart was born in Esslingen in 1965. She moved to Berlin in 2001 and spent nine years driving a rickshaw. Last year she published her historical novel Deutscher Meister, about the Sinto boxer Johann Trollmann, for which she received grants from the German Literature Fund in 2011 and 2012 and the Rheingau Literature Prize.
