Weekly News Update

The annual AWP conference begins next Wednesday in Chicago, with perhaps some of the most interesting events off-site from the Hilton. Journals Mare Nostrum, Black Warrior Review, and Bat City combine world voices with American authors looking outside our borders, and will host ten readers at the Hopleaf Bar. Also, The Poetry Center will host a Poetry in Translation panel, Palabra Pura will follow up on last year’s Acentos event here in New York with over a dozen Latino and Latino poets at Jazz Showcase, and the Ukranian Institute of Modern Art will be host to a reading of several authors. Plus there will be festivals within the festival: UniVerse of Free Expression: A Festival of International Poetry, at the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, and Reading for Mandorla: New Writing from the Americas, at the Chicago Cultural Center.
