Words Without Borders seeks an outgoing, creative, and highly organized Editorial Intern for the spring of 2018. The Editorial Intern will work closely with the Editor to support and promote our monthly online magazine of international literature and related events. The ideal candidate will have strong verbal and written communications skills and knowledge of the international literary landscape. This is a great opportunity for a creative individual interested in gaining experience in editing and communications in the independent or nonprofit publishing fields.
— Work with Editor on the monthly magazine, including:
- setting up monthly issues in content management system (CMS);
- preparing contributor bios;
- adding photos and multimedia
— Work with Editor to prepare monthly contracts and maintain editorial schedule
— Work with Book Review Editor to maintain schedule of upcoming titles in translation for review
— Work with Editor on archive projects, including cataloguing and categorizing content from past WWB issues
— Research and develop ideas for marketing and promoting WWB to new audiences
— Opportunity for occasional blog/book review contributions
— Other interesting tasks as assigned
— Strong interest in international literature, publishing, media, and/or communications
— Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proofreading abilities
— Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
— Experience with or interest in learning contact management system (Salesforce)
— Familiarity with Microsoft Office, content management systems (such as WordPress), and social media tools; Adobe Photoshop skills a plus
— Knowledge of one or more foreign languages recommended
— Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a small, dynamic team
— Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field preferred
The internship requires a commitment of 16 hours a week for a minimum of three months and is based at the Words Without Borders office in Brooklyn. WWB provides a modest monthly travel stipend.
