Antón Lopo, born in Monforte de Lemos in 1961, is widely considered to be one of the most important figures in Galician literature, and is also recognized for his contributions as a journalist and critic. His work spans genres, from fiction, poetry, and biography to performance and audiovisual work. He has published four novels and eight collections of poetry in the past thirty years, with some of the most innovative, boundary-pushing work in either genre. His newest novel, Extraordinary (2018), won two major awards; Jacob Rogers’s translation was awarded a 2020 PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant. His collection Talk to Me (2004) won the prestigious Premio Esquío, receiving the highest praise from none other than Chus Pato, among many others.
