Christina Kramer

Christina E. Kramer, born in West Hartford, Connecticut, received her BA (1975) from Beloit College in Russian, Comparative Literature, and Modern Languages, and her MA (1979) and PhD (1983) in Slavic Linguistics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill....

After completing her PhD, Professor Kramer taught at Murray State University, moving to the University of Toronto in 1986, where she is now a professor of Slavic and Balkan linguistics.

In addition to her monograph, Analytic Modality in Macedonian, she has published articles on the interrelationship of aspect, mood, and tense in the Balkan languages, and on language rights and access to mother-tongue education in the Balkans. Macedonian: A Course for Elementary and Intermediate Students (University of Wisconsin Press) first appeared in 1999 and is currently being revised for an expanded third edition.

She was awarded the Blazhe Koneski prize by the Macedonian Academy of Arts and Sciences and, in June 2009, she became a foreign member of the Macedonian Academy.
