Ena Lucia Portela

The fiction writer and essayist Ena Lucia Portela was born in Havana in 1972 and is one of the most acclaimed authors in Latin America....

At the age of twenty-four she was awarded the Premio de Novela of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba for El pájaro: pincel y tinta china, as well as the Juan Rulfo Prize for her short story collection El viejo, el asesino y yo. In 2002 she received the Premio Jaén for her novel Cien botellas en una pared. Her work has been published in more than twenty countries and has appeared in numerous anthologies, both in Cuba and abroad. In 2007 she was selected by the Bogota Book Fair as one of the most important thirty-nine Latin American writers under thirty-nine.
