Isabelle Eberhardt was born in 1877 and died in 1904. She lived and traveled extensively in North Africa. Her travel writings appeared in book form and and in French newspapers, such as Nouvelles Algériennes (Algerian News) , Dans l'Ombre Chaude de l'Islam (In the Hot Shade of Islam) and Les journaliers(The Day Laborers).
