John E. Woods is a translator who specializes in German literature. Among the writers he has translated are Arno Schmidt, Ingo Schulze, Christoph Ransmayr, and Thomas Mann. He received the prestigious Goethe-Medaille from the Goethe Institute in 2008. Woods lives in Berlin.
