K.T. Billey

K.T. Billey is a poet, writer, translator, and educator from rural Alberta, Canada. Her debut poetry collection, Vulgar Mechanics, will be published by Coach House Books in 2019. Her poem “Girl Gives Birth to Thunder” won Vallum’s 2016 Poetry Prize and her translation of Stormwarning by Icelandic poet Kristín Svava Tómasdóttir won the American Scandinavian Foundation’s 2017 Leif and Inger Sjöberg Prize. A bilingual edition will be published by Phoneme Media in Spring 2018. A chapbook-length selection of her Spanish-English translation of a Chintungo: The Story of Someone Else by Soledad Marambio is now available from Ugly Ducking Presse. A former teaching fellow in poetry at Columbia University, Billey is not a fellow at all. After years living abroad in New York, she recently moved to Toronto.
