Karen Villeda was born in Tlaxcala, Mexico, in 1985. In 2015, she participated in the University of Iowa's International Writing Program, and in 2018 she was the Vermont Studio Center's Writer in Residence. To date, she has published three essay collections, five books of poetry, and two children's books. Her essay collection Visegrado won the José Revueltas Literary Essay Prize, and she has recieved grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Open Society Foundation, the Ragdale Foundation, and the National Fund for Culture and Arts.
