Marianna Salzmann

Marianna Salzmann is a freelance writer who lives in Berlin and Istanbul. She studied literature/theater/media at the University of Hildesheim and scenic writing at the Berlin University of the Arts. Her poetry, essays, and short plays have been published in various magazines. She is the co-founder of the culture and society magazine freitext. Her first full-length play, Weißbrotmusik, won the Wienerwortstaetten Prize in 2009 and IKARUS in 2012 and has been invited to a number of festivals. In 2012 she was awarded the seventeenth Kleist Prize for Emerging Dramatists for the play Muttermale Fenster Blau. Her play Muttersprache Mameloschn was honored with the Mühlheim Audience Award for best play of the year in 2013.

Salzmann initiated various literature workshops as co-founder of the Neues Institut für Dramatisches Schreiben. Since 2013 she has been the in-house writer at the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin, running its studio stage as the head of the free group Conflict Zine Arts Asylum.
