Markus Orths was born in 1969, lives in Karlsruhe, has written a number of short stories and novels (Catalina, Das Lehrerzimmer, Das Zimmermaedchen) and has received several major literary prizes, among them the Sir Walter Scott Prize and the Telekom-Austria-Prize.
