Saba Farhoudnia is a contemporary visual artist based in New York City and a 2019 MFA in painting candidate at the LeRoy E. Huffbeger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). She was born and raised in Tehran, Iran, where she graduated from the University of Science and Culture (USC) with a BFA in painting and an MA in art research, and she migrated to the United States in 2013. Her early artistic activities included calligraphy, animation, drawing, playing Persian traditional instruments, and painting, which became her focus. Her paintings explore deeply personal subject matter. Suffering a chronic back problem led her to wish for all humans and animals to have a greater understanding of their own condition, and she considers herself a painter of pains, wishes, and regrets. She strives to tell stories through representational objects, and the elements that she uses are integral in arousing responses from the viewer.
