Rebecca Liao and Cristóbal Pera Join WWB Board

Words Without Borders is pleased to announce the election of Rebecca Liao and Cristóbal Pera to its board of directors.

REBECCA LIAO is a director in the Legal Services Vertical of Globality, Inc., a stealth startup in Silicon Valley. She is also a writer and China analyst. She serves on the Asia policy team for Secretary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, advising on Asia trade and economic matters. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Financial Times, Foreign Affairs, the Atlantic, the National Interest, Bloomberg View, n+1, Times Literary Supplement, Chinafile, the Diplomat, Huffington Post, Dissent Magazine, the New Inquiry, the LA Review of Books, the China Story Journal, Tea Leaf Nation, the San Francisco Chronicle, and San Francisco Classical Voice. She regularly comments on China for Deutsche Welle and Channel NewsAsia and has also appeared on HuffPost Live and SiriusXM Radio. She is a contributing editor at SupChina. She is a graduate of Stanford University, where she studied economics, and Harvard Law School, where she founded the Aleph Mag, a digital magazine about art, culture, and Chinese law and politics. She is a member of the National Committee on US-China Relations and the Brookings Institution.

CRISTÓBAL PERA has been the director of the Wylie Agency España since 2015. He was formerly the publisher of Penguin Random House Mexico. He has edited authors such as Gabriel García Márquez, Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel Zaid, Enrique Krauze, and Lydia Cacho. He is also the author of a novel, La bahia suspendida; a book of essays, Modernistas en Paris (Modernists in Paris); and numerous articles and translations. He has taught at the University of Barcelona and the University of Texas at Austin, and has been a visiting lecturer at Yale, Princeton, Middlebury, and the University of Virginia. He is a member of the advisory board of the Frankfurt Academy of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
