WWB Partners with Poets.org to Bring International Poetry to More Readers

WWB is thrilled to announce a content partnership with the Academy of American Poets, who will be sharing poems in translation originally published in Words Without Borders on Poets.org. An initial sampler of poems includes works by Amarjit ChandanNavtej BharatiYao FengAgnes LamNhã Thuyên, and Ajmer Rode

WWB executive director Karen M. Phillips said, “We’re delighted and honored that poets featured on WWB will now reach millions of readers on Poets.org, while contributing to the breadth of this important platform for poetry.” 

Jennifer Benka, executive director of the Academy of American Poets, said, “We’re thrilled to share more work written by poets in other countries with American readers, celebrate the importance of translation, and promote cultural understanding. For the past fifteen years, Words Without Borders has led the way in demonstrating how literature might promote empathy, which is something we care deeply about as well. To partner with them is an honor.” 

Other content partners of the Academy of American Poets include Hayden’s Ferry ReviewTin HouseThe Cincinnati ReviewKenyon Review, and Quarterly West.

We will be celebrating the partnership at this evening’s event, featuring Punjabi poet Ajmer Rode in conversation with Rafia Zakaria at the Astoria Bookshop in New York City.


 

The Academy of American Poets is the largest membership-based nonprofit organization fostering an appreciation for contemporary poetry and supporting American poets.
